The tower stands in a very beautiful park, past which flows one arm of the Wallensteingraben, which flows through Wismar into the Baltic Sea.

Wismar station is the terminus for the regional express line RE 8 from BER airport and the regional train lines RB 11 from Tessin and RB 17 from Ludwigslust. Until 1998, the station was also the terminus of the line from Karow, which was closed in 2003. Long-distance trains also ran here until 2001. The station building and other buildings in the station area are listed buildings. After the construction of the connection from Schwerin to Wismar, a station was needed at its terminus. The chosen location north of the old town offered a convenient connection to the port of Wismar. The first buildings were built as early as the end of 1847, including two sheds for materials and sleepers and the cyanization building. The locomotive shed, a carriage shed, a tool shed, the coke store and a coke oven were added later. Around 28,500 thalers were estimated for the construction of the planned reception building. When the railway line was inaugurated in 1848, the locomotive shed was completed, there was also a cattle ramp and a large turntable. Until 1857, the carriage shed was used as a reception hall and shed for goods. There was a station forecourt and a promenade that ran from the Lindengarten to the harbor. There was a station hotel next to the station. Bahnhofstrasse was built after the city wall was demolished (around 1870) and was given its name in 1881. Between 1884 and 1894, the railway facility was expanded and the reception building was expanded. According to a plan from 1896, parking spaces for carriages, private vehicles and buses were to be created on the station forecourt. An underpass for pedestrians was built in 1908. The reception building is located southwest of the platform tracks. The later construction of additional freight tracks meant that it became an island location. A small reception building was built between these tracks and the city, which was connected to the actual reception building by a tunnel under the freight tracks. In 2019, after the redesign, the platforms and car park are barrier-free. Travelers can now reach the platforms via an arcade. Deutsche Bahn had previously filled in the old passenger tunnel. Another barrier-free path connects the main platform with Poeler Strasse. The reception building, front building, platform roof, freight shed, water station and the Poeler Strasse locomotive shed are listed buildings. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahnhof_Wismar

The great pond is the Mühlenbach. It is a regulated stream that meanders through the city center and is divided into different sections. In the Lindengarten you can stroll along the Mühlenbach and enjoy the idyllic nature. The Mühlenbach begins as an outflow of the Mühlenteich, which is fed by the Wallensteingraben. It leaves the pond on the western bank, passes under the Wismar-Bad Kleinen railway line and flows from there in a northerly direction. In the Lindengarten, south of the train station, the Mühlenbach is dammed. After passing under Bahnhofstrasse, the watercourse is called the Mühlengrube. The Mühlenbach played an important role historically: it was regulated as early as the 13th century to operate mills and to make it navigable. Barges transported goods such as grain, salt and herring. The stream was also used for washing clothes and supplying water. In the event of city fires, the flow of water was stopped by iron gates to dam up water for firefighting. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grube_(Wismar)

Later, the locomotive shed, a carriage shed and an equipment shed as well as the coke store and a coke oven were added. Source:https://www.auf-nach-mv.de/reiseziele/a-bahnhof-wismar
