Along with St. Mary's and St. Nicholas' Church, St. George's Church is one of the three monumental Gothic religious buildings in Wismar's old town. In terms of its mass and the enclosed space, St. George's Church, which was begun in 1295, is the largest of these buildings. It is also the youngest church to be built and is considered the miracle of Wismar. St. George's Church was the place of worship for the rulers and craftsmen of Wismar. The church, which was badly damaged in the Second World War and further deteriorated during the GDR era, was largely rebuilt by 2010.
