Very beautiful ensemble of the monastery mill on the Huder Bach, the monastery tavern and the monastery ruins. The remains of the former Cistercian monastery are worth a visit. There is a winter break until Easter.

The ruins are impressively beautiful. I was just a little disappointed that it can only be viewed in more detail with an entrance fee. And too focused on tourism.

Historical monastery area Picturesque idyll with a special history. The historic monastery area with monastery ruins is impressive at any time of the year. In 1232, the Cistercian monastery was built in Oldenburger Land, which later became the town of Hude. In addition to the ruins of the former monastery church, the abbot's house, now the von Witzleben family's estate with landscape park, a historic watermill and the former gate chapel, now the St. Elisabeth Church, are worth seeing. The Klosterschänke, formerly a monastic brewery, is a hotel with a restaurant and café that invites you to stay overnight and enjoy a special ambience. The neighboring Monastery Museum is open on weekends and public holiday afternoons from May to October. Expert tours for groups are also available all year round upon registration

The lake "Sandersfeld" was not known to me. Wonderful view, forest path all around, sometimes a bit of beach. My dog was looking forward to a little cool down and some water to drink.

The ruins of the monastery are enormous. The complex must have been very large once. But even today the property is very complex. There is a monastery museum (closed from October), an exhibition on sculptures, the restaurant "Klosterschänke", a church and several outbuildings. Definitely worth a visit at the right time.
