🏗️🚢 The visitor platform at the Wedtlenstedt lock in the municipality of Vechelde (Lower Saxony) was set up as part of the ongoing replacement construction of the lock on the Salzgitter Branch Canal (SKS) to give interested parties an insight into this major project. The Wedtlenstedt lock is being modernized to make the Salzgitter Branch Canal navigable for modern, larger cargo ships (large motor cargo vessels) with a draft of 2.80 m.

A highlight in the negative sense! The path between the Üffingen and Wedtlenstedt locks is closed. Canal widening work is underway. Unfortunately, there's no advance warning, and so you suddenly find yourself in front of the barriers. On the other hand, the bridge at the "Marina Bortfeld" appears to be working again. 👍

A maritime flair draws visitors to the Heidanger marina in Wedtlenstedt: Around 80 boats of various sizes are moored. Owners appreciate the seclusion and tranquility that awaits them here. There's also a harbor restaurant, which guests often book as a meeting place. The harbor was officially opened on May 10, 1983. It was the first marina in the Peine district. Today, approximately 80 motorboats are moored there. A wide range of boats is represented, from small pleasure craft to large, seaworthy motor yachts. From here, the Mittelland Canal and the Elbe or Rhine can be reached in 3.5 km.
