Great windmill in Bad Bederkesa with a great view of the surrounding nature.

Long before the discovery of electricity and the inventions associated with it, our ancestors discovered the possibility of harnessing the power of the elements - which could be useful on the one hand, but also a threat as a force of nature on the other - for various purposes. A good example of the human inventiveness of earlier generations is such a mill: the heavy millstones used to grind grain or press oil, for example, could be powered by water or - as here - the wind. Only a few of them still fulfill their original function today, but fortunately some have at least survived as evidence of the old days.

The comfortably equipped houseboats are firmly anchored on the Bederkesa-Geeste canal. It is a special experience to spend the night there.

The houseboats can be rented

The grain windmill in Bad Bederkesa, built in 1881, stands on a 31 meter high ridge above the town. As an "earth and gallery Dutchman" with a wind rose, it automatically places the mill hood and thus the wings in the wind. This makes this windmill one of the most modern types of windmill. There are two old, still functional grinding aisles on the grinding floor, one powered by wind power and one powered by electricity. The individual mill floors can be climbed up to a balcony on the mill hood. From here you can enjoy a wonderful view of the town, the lake and the northern German landscape. Until 1990 the mill was still run by a miller. Since then, the Bederkesa Beautification Association has looked after the building, which is a listed building.

The floating houses were deliberately anchored on this floating jetty in 2018, connected directly to the land with electricity, water and wastewater, pure luxury. You can experience very special holidays here, such as hiking, cycling and water sports. A rowing boat with up to six people or a license-free motor yacht with up to four people are available. The “Moortherme” adventure pool (200m) as well as a four-star 18-hole golf course (4km), various cultural offerings and a great infrastructure complete the stay. Nevertheless, you are still in the middle of nature, very close to the water, the lake, the fish and seabirds.

The tower is very beautiful, but the jetty that gave a wonderful view of the lake no longer exists. Only the supports are still standing, the tread has been torn off.
