The Eschbachtal outdoor pool will remain closed for renovations until approximately 2027! As of May 2025, the city of Remscheid is now starting the renovation, or rather, the tender process for the work; a verbal commitment from NRW funding has been received. The renovation also includes the renaturalization and exposure of the Eschbach River, which currently runs in pipes beneath the outdoor pool and flooded the pool during the last flood. New swimming pools, slides, and a new paddling area with water from the stream for children are planned. Direct access to the stream is not possible for nature conservation reasons. Overall, the water surface will be reduced to save energy. The entire new construction will cost approximately €31.5 million. The Stone Cross is the common name for the memorial located very close to the Way of St. James, where the old military road from Cologne to Dortmund once ran. It bears the weathered inscription: "Pray for the soul of Mr. Josef Weizel, for whose attack this cross was erected, in remembrance of October 17, in the year of our Lord 1554."
