When entering the meadow, definitely watch out for ticks! After that, there is a very cool (although unfortunately too short for me) trail that connects the middle lake with the right or left lake, depending on your perspective. 🌳🌊

The Auenpark in Paderborn, officially known as the Schloss- und Auenpark, is a remarkable attraction that combines nature, culture and relaxation in a unique way. Located near Neuhaus Castle, the park offers a mix of historical splendor and natural beauty. Originally created for the State Horticultural Show in 1994, the site includes both the reconstructed parks of the castle and ecological recreation areas formed by the floodplain landscape of the Alme, Lippe and Pader rivers. Neuhaus Castle itself, a highlight of the park, is a magnificent moated castle that was built in the Weser Renaissance and is considered one of the most beautiful complexes of its kind in Germany. The climax of its history took place in the 18th century under Clement August of Bavaria, who expanded it into a baroque residence. The baroque garden on the grounds of the castle was revived on the occasion of the State Garden Show in 1994, with parts of the garden being reconstructed in great detail. Today, the castle moat, the partially reconstructed historic baroque parterre with its lime tree avenue and the historic garden sculptures give an impression of the former splendor of the garden during the time of the prince-bishop. The Auenpark itself is a green band along the river floodplains with playgrounds and recreational areas. The park extends from the center of Paderborn via Neuhaus Castle to Lake Lippe and offers a wide range of uses with the theme of “meadow landscapes as living spaces”. The castle and floodplain park thus combines the historical significance of Neuhaus Castle with the natural beauty and ecological significance of the floodplain landscape.
