It's really worth taking a little tour around Lake Werbelin as the lake is completely covered in asphalt and is very flat.

Excavated by open-cast lignite mining, the ancient village of Werbelin disappeared from the map in 1991. Werbelin was first mentioned in documents in 1349, but is much older. The Werbeliner See nature reserve is a beautiful destination. Here you can relax, unwind and make great nature observations. !BUT BE CAREFUL - THE LAKE IS NOT A SWIMMING LAKE! To protect the biodiversity that has developed here, leaving the paths and consequently swimming is not allowed in the 1500 hectare protected area. The nearby Schladitzer See is a good alternative for anyone looking for a place for water-based leisure activities. The area is one of the largest and most important nature reserves in Saxony. Special species such as wolves, sea eagles, otters, beavers and, above all, a nationally outstanding bird population have settled here. Great resting place with a beautiful view of the lake. Also suitable for rain.

The stupid thing about the story is that not a single house had to be demolished. Mining has been stopped at the entrance to the town.
