The "Goitzsche Wächter" consist of eight stylized figures made of steel and located at various locations around Lake Goitzsche. The sculptures, which are between six and eight meters high, represent guardians who are supposed to protect the area and nature. Each figure has an individual design and its own message, which is explained on a board near the sculpture. Source https://goitzsche-events.de/das-landschaftskunstwerk-goitzsche-waechter

The grass in the pasture is sufficient for the ponies' diet all year round. In winter, they are fed exclusively with hay. Bread and grain are not good for the Exmoor ponies at all. They get digestive problems and eczema. When they get eczema, their fur falls out in certain places and they get scabby patches. This means: please do not feed them! The Exmoor pony originally comes from Exmoor in the south-west of England. It is a very hilly, often uncultivable landscape, in which gorse, heath and bushes predominate in large parts. Some Exmoor pony herds have been able to survive here almost in the wild. Exmoor ponies are one of the few "real" wild horses, as they are not domestic horses that have been released into the wild, like many horses in other free-living herds. They have been breeding there in Exmoor for thousands of years without human intervention. Source https://www.bund-sachsen-anhalt.com/ueber-uns/anhalt-bitterfeld/

Niemegk was probably founded in 1089 (not documented) by Thimo von Wettin as a Benedictine monastery. However, a Slavic settlement already existed at that time. The town belonged to the Saxon Amt Bitterfeld until 1815.[1] Due to the decisions of the Congress of Vienna, it came to Prussia and in 1816 was assigned to the Bitterfeld district in the Merseburg administrative district of the Province of Saxony, to which it belonged until 1944.[2] The town of Niemegk, with around 2000 inhabitants, was dissolved in 1975 and was destroyed in 1979/1980 by dredging to expand the Goitzsche open-cast mine.[3] Today, the "Niemegker Straße" and the "Niemegker See beach" in Bitterfeld still remind us of the lost town. Niemegk was located two kilometers east of Bitterfeld on the Leine and stretched for about two kilometers as a street village on the road to the also sunken village of Döbern, northeast of the Goitzsche lowland, which is now flooded as the Great Goitzschesee after the end of open-cast lignite mining. Paupitzsch and Neuhaus today After the Goitzsche open-cast mine was closed in 1990, the establishment of the Paupitzscher See nature reserve began in the same year. The Paupitzscher Lake was created when the Paupitzsch opencast mine was flooded from 1993 to 2005. Today, an iron cross and a boulder at the site of the former church remind us of the former location. The Neuhaus opencast mine belonged to the Holzweißig-West opencast mine (part of the Goitzsche), which was operated from 1958 to 1980. This remaining hole was also flooded from 1993 to 2005. This created Lake Neuhäuser. Overflowing water is channeled into the hollow via the Goitzsche. The church of Paupitzsch Paupitzsch had a Romanesque village church from the 12th century, which was rebuilt in the 15th century. In 1717 it received baroque furnishings that were created by an unknown sculptor from Düben. The branch churches of Benndorf and Werbelin belonged to the Paupitzsch parish church. From 1700/53, the Neuhaus manor had church patronage over the parish church with its two branch churches. Like the entire town of Paupitzsch, the church fell victim to brown coal mining in 1975/76. Some preserved furnishings, including: The predella, the baptismal font and an angel figure from the altarpiece are on display in Delitzsch Castle.[9] Source https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paupitzsch#:~:text=Paupitzsch%20ist%20eine%20moderne%20W%C3%BCstung, opencast mine%20Goitzsche%20zum%20Victim%20fell.
