The Burger Au is a small river in Schleswig-Holstein that flows through the Wilstermarsch. This region is known for its marshland, which is criss-crossed by numerous drainage ditches and small rivers. The Burger Au flows into the Stör, which in turn flows into the Elbe. The area around the Burger Au offers a charming landscape that is ideal for nature observation and hiking. The river landscape is an attractive destination for nature lovers due to its diverse flora and fauna. The section between Burg and St. Margarethen is particularly scenic. There are numerous historic buildings and sights in the region that reflect the rich history of the Wilstermarsch. These include old farmhouses, windmills and churches, which were often built on small hills, the so-called wurten, to be protected from flooding.
