Mannerheim was Commander-in-Chief of the Finnish Army in the Winter War of 1939/1940 and in the Continuation War of 1941. From 1944 to 1946 he was President of Finland.

Mikkeli Cathedral in Mikkeli, Finland, is the episcopal church of the Evangelical Lutheran Diocese of Mikkeli. The bishopric was originally in Savonlinna, then in today's Vyborg, Russia. Only after the loss of Vyborg to Russia in 1945 was the episcopal see moved to Mikkeli.
