Søholt Castle's first named owner was Morten Venstermand, who expanded his property in the area surrounding the newly founded manor house around 1550. Søholt was badly damaged during the Swedish Wars (1657–1660). The current main building dates from 1804. The castle is famous for its baroque garden, which is open to visitors (entrance fee 20 kroner, money box at the open main gate). The first garden was laid out here in the 1690s. The orangery is also a must-see in the magnificent grounds; the lovingly decorated glasshouse can be booked for special occasions. The baroque garden is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Café Søholt only in the summer months (June–August, Fri–Sun, 12 p.m.–4 p.m.). www.soeholt.nu

The mighty troll named Frie Vilje is an incredible five meters tall and welcomes you in the forest of Bangshaveskoven. It was built by the artist Thomas Dambo and is made of recycled wood.

Maribo a beautiful, but for my taste "somewhat" run-down city. Localities none. Cycling, however, quite neat. Especially something outside by the NSG

Maribo Cathedral is located right on beautiful Søndersø. The church was originally built in the 15th century as part of a double monastery - situated between a nunnery and a monastic monastery. When the old village church burned down in 1596, the monastery church became the town's new church. In 1803 the church changed its status and became a cathedral church. The church has undergone various renovations over the centuries. But in the 1890s the church was restored to its original form, and today the church looks as a monastery church looked like in the Middle Ages. Today the original remains of the nunnery can be seen outside the church. Cobblestones show where the walls of the old monastery used to be.
