Between the Odeleite Reservoir and the Guadiana River, the horizon reveals seemingly endless green hills. Amidst this scenery, the small village of Odeleite looms almost hidden, nestled in the landscape as if it had always been a part of it. It's worth stopping for a moment, taking a deep breath, and letting the beauty of the place wash over you before resuming your journey.

The Guadiana, over 800 km long, flows through Spain and Portugal and, in two stretches, marks the border between the two countries, as is the case here in this area. It flows into the Atlantic nearby, between Vila Real de Santo António and Ayamonte. Called Anas by the Romans (perhaps "of the ducks," perhaps simply "river" in Celtiberian), it received the name Uádi Ana from the Moors, which over time transformed into Ouadiana, Odiana, and finally Guadiana. Here in the Algarve region, the river winds through sunny landscapes, accompanied by dirt roads that complete the idyllic setting.

In the images, what you see most are pine trees, not cork oaks. These are still beautiful images.👍🥾

Alternative to the beach. In summer hot but windy, take water with you. Towards the end nice bar with kind People to have some drink!

Moinho das Pernadas is located on the right bank of the Odeleite river. It is an old hydraulic mill undergoing rehabilitation by the City Council. The mill was reactivated, after spending many years (since 1980) in oblivion. It is accessed from the bank opposite this point. However, it is possible to admire it from an even more favorable angle from here.

The Terras da Ordem National Forest is located in Castro Marim and is distinguished by its diversity of flora and fauna. The name comes from its connection with the Order of Christ. The vegetation is predominantly Mediterranean, with stone pine, cork oak and other species, especially near watercourses. The lands, fertile and riverside, are marked by human presence through vegetable gardens and water mills.

The cork oak is notable for its bark, from which cork is extracted, and pine trees are often found in coastal and inland landscapes in southern Portugal, adapted to sandy soils and a climate with hot, dry summers.
