The village was abandoned in 1992 because it was not connected to the electricity grid or infrastructure. Now, nature has reclaimed the area. A beautiful lost place that invites you to dream.

In the church newspaper for the Archdiocese of Cologne (issue 24/2025), Deacon Hanno Sprissler explains his perspective on the mystery of the divine Trinity, to which this church in Mosteiro is dedicated, as follows: "But doesn't every spiritual person actually have a very personal image of the divine, sometimes more personal, sometimes more abstract? How helpful is the Trinity in this, which offers us various relationships! + Most people should be able to understand God the Father as the Creator God: the origin of all being, as that which existed before everything else and from which everything else came. + While seeing God in Jesus Christ as a human being is associated with apparent contradictions, it has the great advantage that this essence is very close to ours. Jesus is the declaration of God's love made human! + (...) fits very well with the Holy Spirit, who for many people of our time is an abstract, unimaginable, and transcendent force that works in and through us, that strengthens us, and is available always and everywhere" (Deacon Hanno Sprissler)

The Church of Nossa Senhora dos Milagres (Portuguese: Igreja Paroquial de Lajedo/Igreja de Nossa Senhora dos Milagres) is an 18th-century church in the civil parish of Lajedo in the municipality of Lajes das Flores. Typical Portuguese church made of whitewashed stone with automatic bell tower. A highly recommended hiking route to Faja Grande starts from there.

The Caldeira Rasa e Funda viewpoint is a popular tourist destination in Lajes das Flores. From here you have the best view of the two craters Lagoa Rasa and Lagoa Fund de Rajes. The two lagoons, remnants of volcanic craters, are close to each other and separated by a strip of rock less than 100 meters wide. The darker Lagoa Rasa has an almost perfectly round shape, while the Lagoa Funda is more elongated and its banks are more rugged.
