Standing on the summit of Sassafras Mountain puts you on the highest point in the state of South Carolina. At 3,554 feet, the peak offers multiple observation areas and platforms that point in different directions off the top of the mountain. Being part of the Blue Ridge Mountain Range, the peak is highly popular, allowing both car and foot access from the bottom to the summit area (there is a steep incline from the parking lot to the observation deck).

Embarking on the journey to Clawhammer Mountain entails a challenging 10+ mile trek along multi-use trails catering to bikers, equestrians, and hikers, weaving through steep climbs, creek paths, wildflower patches, and lush cove forests.

The viewing platform at the top of Sassafras Mountain is the perfect reward for all that climbing. On the border of North and South Carolina, the views are breathtaking.

Burnt Mountain rises at 3,000 feet and provides beautiful views of the surrounding mountainous landscape. The walk from the road is relatively gentle and welcomes hikers of all levels. This specific section of the forest is frequented by cyclists, so be mindful of their presence when traversing the path.

Bennett Gap is a popular mountain biking trail in Pisgah National Forest. It features some pretty tough, rocky, and steep sections, but there are multiple viewpoints along the trail and on the ridge of some of the taller nearby peaks. There are also some faster gravel sections, so if you are into speed, this isn't a terrible place for the hardtail.

Cedar Rock is a mountain summit in DuPont State Recreational Forest. It's located off the side of the Big Rock Trail and is on a pretty open bald of smooth granite rock.

Rising nearly 3,000 feet, Burnt Mountain rewards mountain bikers with panoramic vistas after conquering miles of this excellent singletrack. From the peak, take in the sweeping views and refuel before you begin your next climb.
