The Cuyahoga Reservoir was created by the construction of the Gorge Dam in 1914. Many people have rallied against the dam since the inception and now there is a strong movement to remove the dam and help the Cuyahoga River return to a more natural state.

The Freedom Trail was built on an unused section of railroad to connect the people of Kent and Akron. Along the way you'll pass through parks, along rivers and lakes, and have a good chance at spotting some wildlife.

Located just off of the Plateau Trail, Chestnut Pond is a beautiful nature waterbody that makes for a great bird watching stop.

The Richfield Heritage Preserve is a great location for all kinds of outdoor activities. The area hosts two lakes for fishing, and various hiking trails that lead through wooded areas. The popular Buckeye Trail leads through the area.

Goodyear Heights Metro Park is part of the Summit Metro Parks system in Akron and features hiking trails, such as the Alder Pond Trail and the Eastwood Trail. Alder Pond is located in the park and serves as a popular location for a picnic or a little break.

Portage Lakes State Park in Summit County, Ohio, encompasses a scenic area with several interconnected lakes. The park features extensive waterways for boating, fishing, and swimming, along with picturesque trails for hiking.

Summit Lake is a natural, glacial lake and the high point along the Ohio & Erie Canal. There is a bridge that crosses the south end of the lake and gives you a great view of the body of water.

The Bath Nature Preserve is a nature and wildlife safe haven just outside of Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The trails in the park are popular for birding, with wetland and pond ecosystems acting as home to many different avian species.
