Good hike

More like a walk vs hike but good place to get some exercise in if you live close by.

Glassy, or Glassy Mountain (not to be confused with its neighbor Little Glassy Mountain), is a 2,783-foot peak situated in the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site in Flat Rock, North Carolina. The trail accessing the peak is well-maintained and easy to follow, and the summit itself is an awesome viewpoint.

At mile marker 404.5 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mills River Valley Overlook is the first of many close by scenic overlooks heading north. There are actually viewing areas of the valley on both sides of the parkway, and there is hiking trail access at this pull-off.

The reservoir has been used as a storage facility for high quality water for about 100 years. It is currently (2023) undergoing some construction with the aim to remove the sediment that has naturally accumulated, but resulted in a smaller storage capacity for the reservoir over the past decades.

Holmes Educational State Forest has a handful of different interpretive and nature trails. The most popular is the Demonstration Trail, which is a loop trail traveling around the perimeter of the forest. This is a lesser visited area than the nearby Dupont State Recreational Forest.
