Morgan-Monroe State Forest is the second-largest state forest in Indiana, encompassing 24,000 acres. This deciduous forest that was once abandoned farmland was abandoned due to the rocky and poor soil conditions for farming. Morgan-Monroe State Forest and Yellowwood State Forest are two rare locations in Indiana where gold panning can be done with a free permit.

Ellettsville, Indiana, is a historic town with architecture of the past. There are a bunch of coffee shops and restaurants along with plenty of small shops. The town serves as the northern terminus of the Karst Farm Greenway.

The B-Line Trail is a completely paved 3.1-mile trail passing through the heart of the city. There are a bunch of different spots that you can gain access to the path, and a variety of trail users utilize the route. It also connects to the Bloomington Rail Trail so that you can make your ride even further if you want.

The trails at Wapehani Mountain Bike Park are definitely built to be bike-specific trails, but they are also open to foot-traffic and leashed dogs, so you'll need to be aware of other trail users. The trails have lots of mountain bike obstacles (like berms, jumps, and ramps) that you can easily avoid if you aren't into those, and there are lots of connecting trails that you can use to make your ride longer or shorter.

Miller-Showers Park has both artistic and natural features via some paved paths in downtown Bloomington. There are bridges, piers, sculptures, retention ponds, and educational signs along the walkways that make the park work visiting. The park has been well taken care of and is sometimes referred to as the "Gateway to the City."

Griffy Reservoir is the result of the damming of Griffy Creek and is the heart of the Griffy Lake Nature Preserve. There is a great view of the water (whose level is dependent on the time of year) from the bridge. You also get a lot of views from the trails on the banks of the water.

The Limestone Greenway is a pretty new trail that is completely paved. It's only 1.7 miles each direction, but it connects to a bunch of other gravel and paved paths that stretch more miles in different directions. The trail is in Monroe County, but it's far enough outside the city that it isn't usually super crowded.

The Hickory Ridge Lookout Tower was constructed in 1936 in order to aid the National Park Service in spotting forest fires. The tower was manned for almost 40 years, until modern technologies superseded the need for human lookouts. The tower still stands as an observation point, and anyone who wants to scale the 133 steel steps will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.
