The park connected to the South Haven Trailhead of the Kal-Haven Trail is nicely paved, connected to a nearby campground and has a nice wooden water walkway. Though depending on the water levels, the river walk may be inaccessible.

Covering 33.5 miles and connecting Kalamazoo with South Haven, this trail showcases 31 exhibit panels delving into the area's natural and cultural history. As you go through this section, you'll cross a charming bridge with captivating views of the South Branch Black River.

Mount Baldhead (topped with trees, not being bald) includes a 1 mile loop trail used for hiking, walking, and trail running. There are also steps that bring one to the summit where one can view Saugatuck and Douglas and Lake Michigan. Oval Beach is nestled among towering sand dunes and bordered by the winding Kalamazoo River on its way to Lake Michigan. The beach has been rated by Conde Naste's Traveler Magazine as one of the 25 best shorelines in the world. MTV has ranked Oval Beach as one of the top five beaches in the country. Oval Beach Park is open year 'round. You may also take on a short and steep, but worthwhile hiking tour to Mt.
