The Niagara Falls Trail offers a short but steep hike with switchbacks. The trail leads to two waterfalls, which have often been confused with one another, despite neither resembling Niagara Falls. The first waterfall you encounter is Pheasant Creek Falls, a single drop that plunges into a natural amphitheater. The trail is lush and green in the summer; check reports to see if you will need microspikes in the winter.

Pheasant Creek Falls, located at the end of the Niagara Falls Trail, drops about 124 feet into a steep-sided canyon. The trail, winding through a thick forest of Douglas firs, has several switchbacks. Along the way, cross footbridges over creeks and waterfalls and enjoy scenic views of the falls above Pheasant Creek.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Trappist Abbey, located in Yamhill County, Oregon, was established in 1948 in Pecos, New Mexico, by Trappist monks from Rhode Island. In 1955, the monks moved to Oregon, where the abbey now occupies 1,300 acres of forest in the Willamette Valley. The forest enhances the spiritual setting, and the monks, who live communally, balance their days with prayer, work, and contemplation. The trail on the property leads to a shrine, a space for worship and meditation, and visitors are welcome to explore respectfully.

Lafayette is in the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley and wine country. It was built in 1846 by Joel Perkins and sits on the historic Native American trail by the Yamhill River. The town flourished after the California Gold Rush and became one of Oregon's most important cities in the 1850s. Lafayette also flourished in 1995, driven by the local wine industry, tourism, and proximity to merto Portland.

The historic Yamhill River Lock and Dam was built in 1900 for better river transport between Dayton and McMinnville. The lock was 210 feet long and 40 feet wide, and the dam helped raise water levels for steamboat navigation in the summer. The lock was abandoned in the 1950s and later given to Yamhill County. Today, the ruins of the lock can be viewed at Lafayette Locks Park.

Half a mile north on this paved trail is Erratic Rock State Natural Site. This small park features a 40-ton glacial erratic from the Missoula Floods. The park around it offers a great view of the valley. It's a day-use park with one picnic table but no shade, no running water, and no restrooms.
