Wayfinding becomes a bit easier within the park thanks to well-maintained trails and signage, but keep watching for yellow blazes to stay on the official Rachel Carson route because there are tons of trails that crisscross it.

North Park is a large 3,075 acre park in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. It is the largest park within the county’s 12,000-acre network of nine parks. Established in 1925, North Park aims to preserve natural resources for future generations and features a range of facilities including an archery range, ballfields, basketball courts, boating, a cafe, and a nature center. In the winter you can enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and in the warmer months, fishing, pickleball, and hiking, biking, and jogging numerous trails.

This is a lovely little pond within South Park Game Reserve, with a small fountain in the middle. There is a walkway around the pond, so you can see the ducks and turtles up close.

Pinkerton's Run Pond, nestled along the Red trail, offers a serene retreat amidst nature's beauty. Adjacent to the pond, a charming stream adds to the picturesque setting, creating a tranquil atmosphere. This idyllic spot is not only perfect for enjoying the serene surroundings but also offers excellent opportunities for observing wildlife in their natural habitat.

Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve stands as one of the Pittsburgh region's expansive private nature sanctuaries. Under the stewardship of the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania in collaboration with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, this reserve invites exploration of its rich biodiversity. Wander along clearly marked trails through diverse habitats, from mixed deciduous forests to meadows and wetlands.

Discover the serenity of Lake Elizabeth in Allegheny Commons Park, Pittsburgh's oldest green space. Named after Elizabeth Kirschler, daughter of Allegheny City's final mayor, the lake has been a cherished feature since its inception. Once bustling with activities like swimming and boating, the lake underwent a transformation in the 1960s. Now, collaborative efforts aim to restore its original charm, blending history with modern revitalization initiatives led by the city, Parks Conservancy, and local community.

The Westinghouse Memorial was unveiled in 1930 in honour of George Westinghouse, who founded the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. This memorial includes a pond and a large bronze monument. There is a sculpture of a schoolboy, looking at the 3 panels which depict the life of George Westinghouse. This is a peaceful place to enjoy the park.

This pond is a lovely place to stop for a rest during your ride. The pond is part of the Pinkerton Run. The pond is set within Settlers Cabin Park, the 3rd largest park in Allegheny County, covering over 1,600 acres.
