The Valdese Greenway offers a scenic pathway along the Catawba River and McGalliard Creek. It provides a great environment for hiking, running, and biking and is lined with lush vegetation. The trail features benches, bridges, and various viewpoints.

The McGalliard Falls is a picturesque waterfall situated in the park of the same name. The falls cascade gracefully over rocks, creating a serene and natural setting. To reach the falls, the Valdese Greenway is the most popular route, but they can be reached by car as well.

The Catawba River Greenway is a 3.8-mile entirely paved trail that follows the Catawba River every inch of the way. It is an out and back trail (so 7.6 miles round trip) and passes numerous parks along its way. This is a perfect spot for road runs and quicker workouts.

The Pinch In Trail is one of the gnarlier trails within the Linville Gorge Wilderness. It climbs from the river up to the ridge in just over a mile and zigzags up the mountain next to cliffs and big drop-offs. Most (if not all) of this trail will be more of a hike than a run (both directions).

Big Rock is a large boulder on the Pinch In Trail which can be climbed. The views from the top are spectacular; don't forget to look south along the length of the gorge and see views of Shortoff Mountain.

The Daffodil Flats are an area in the Linville Gorge Valley where large numbers of the yellow flowers grow naturally. This area is very popular during the late spring and early summer months when the flowers are in full bloom.

Standing at 2,883 feet tall, Shortoff Mountain is one of the tallest peaks in the Linville Gorge Wilderness area. The summit is made of rocky outcrops, and you can even find a small pond just off the main trail. There are great views of Table Rock Mountain to the north. This spot makes for a great picnic place before continuing your hike.
