A typical Texas downtown area with lots of food and drink options if you need to stop for refreshments. There's also a bike shop in case you need spares.

The Dempsey Facility was once a training ground for recruit airmen during the Vietnam War based out of Fort Wolters nearby, but is now owned by the county and is used for meeting some of the county's needs. Most recently it was used as a Field Headquarters for local fire departments to coordinate their efforts in fighting the Dempsey Fire in June of 2022. It's other uses have been things such as holding thousands of Volkswagens after a manufacturer's recall, processing asphalt for county infrastructure projects, etc. It is guarded and closed to the public.

A very pretty and very open crossroads. This is where TX-919 intersects with US-180. Palo Pinto is just a short ride east of here, and if you turn south here you will ride through Gordon and reach I-20 shortly thereafter. BEWARE: 919 is notorious for having no shoulder to ride on with fast drivers and blind hills/turns. There are hardly any towns west of here for a while.

A popular spot for fishermen. They will park at the boat ramp nearby and walk out over the causeway to fish. Very beautiful views of the lake from here, aside from the big ugly power plant on the west side of the causeway. The creek that feeds Lake Palo Pinto is just on the north side of this causeway.

My hometown! I've lived here since I was 5. It was dead and dried up for decades after the Baker, the Crazy Water, and Fort Wolters shut down, but in the past years has EXPLODED! There are so many new bars and stores downtown now. Everything is getting fixed up and is under construction. The Baker Hotel and the Crazy Water Hotel are currently being renovated. It's been a big deal to the people who live here. Sure wish they would fix the streets though.

There are SO MANY FOSSILS here! Even an untrained eye could find 10 fossils a minute. There are two photos I added to this highlight to serve as an example of this. I sat down in the middle of the fossil collecting area and I took a photo of a random spot on the ground. I then spent a minute or two collecting as many fossils as I could in that area. The second photo is my hand holding the fossils I found. Let's see how many you can find in the photo.

A fairly new business, The Flying Tire Bicycle Shop as been around for years, but as a storefront located just off the square in Weatherford, TX 25 miles away. The Mineral Wells location is less than a year old at the time of writing this comment (6-21-2022). It is a very clean store and is located in a historic building in downtown Mineral Wells. Garrett's Pawn Shop, Pastafina, Crazy 8's Tacos, the Crazy Water Hotel, are all right next to the shop. Unfortunately, the owner is having staffing issues lately, so it is best to call to see if they're open before actually going there.
