Seneca Lake is the largest of the glacial Finger Lakes and the deepest in New York State. In Seneca Lake State Park, there is a great, sand beach that you can use to access the lake.

This is the northernmost of two overlook points, giving you a great vantage over the nearby loops of hiking trails.

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts, encompasses diverse habitats. Its wetlands provide a crucial resting place for migratory birds, offering a scenic refuge for wildlife.

Seneca Trail is a small yet lovely trail in the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, perfect for a short hike and birdwatching.

The Lakeshore Trail at Sampson State Park is a mixture of pavement and packed dirt and cinders. There are lots of benches and places to view the lake from the trail, and the park offers picnic areas and a few other recreational amenities. The trail is basically what remains of an old road, but it still offers some seclusion in nature with sporadic views of the water.

The Ludovico Sculpture Trail is a short multi-surface trail that follows alongside the Seneca River while passing by a bunch of different sculptures from different artists. The terrain is pretty smooth the entire time and is a fun combination of art, nature, and exercise.

The Cayuga-Seneca Canal Trail is a 5-mile trail that follows alongside the Seneca River. The trail is mostly crushed-stone, packed-dirt, and sand the entire time and stays pretty shaded. Even though it's pretty close to the water, you are usually just tucked in the trees with forest views.
