The First United Methodist Church, established in 1874, is the oldest in Elgin. As a small frame sanctuary, built in 1882, it was later replaced by the impressive structure you see today. Local contractor J.C. Miller oversaw the church's construction, completing it in October 1906. The church features a prominent entrance tower and beautiful stained-glass memorial windows, worthy of capturing a few memorable photos.

This delightful historic downtown area has something for everyone, including a variety of fantastic antique shops, boutiques, sweet shops, and cafés, perfect for enjoying snacks and drinks as you wander in and out of the unique stores. Known as “The Brick Capital of the Southwest,” this district features many structures built with some of the finest brick craftsmanship in the region. Constructed between 1872 and 1947, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and includes more than 67 historic buildings.

Buescher State Park sits on 1,016 acres, with 30 acres of it comprising Buescher Lake. The park offers fishing, boating, a swimming pool, and hiking/mountain bike trails. Additionally, the 12-mile road between Buescher and Bastrop State Parks is ideal for road cycling.

Home to various plants and animals. This trail is shaded and meanders through oak and cedar trees. The Civilian Conservation Corps built many structures in the park, which can still be seen today, if you look closely. The surface of this trail is mostly smooth compact dirt, but always be mindful of changing terrain.

Great fall hike through mixed woods, with everything from pine cones to prickly pear. Full loop is now open again.

The path through the woodland is very entertaining due to the small jumps and having to dodge the trees. Also it is especially beautiful in autumn.

Loblolly pines tower over you on the Pine Gulch Trail, which takes you onto the steep Pine Gulch hills. Keep your binoculars at the ready, as over 250 bird species can be spotted in the park, while you might also see raccoons, bobcats and armadillos.

Bastrop State Park has been a popular outdoor space for many generations. However, the park has been impacted by forest fires and floods in recent years and is currently recovering. There are many cabins and camping spots in the western end of the park, while the Lost Pines Trail explores the more serene eastern end of the park.
