With a name like Goat Mountain, you can probably imagine how challenging this thread of footpath gets as you near the summit. It has beautiful views over Bass Lake and the surrounding mountains, though.

This trail leads up a relatively gentle incline to Red Rock Falls. As it climbs you'll see a change in the trees, from a wider-open canopy to smaller, brushier trees up the hill.

Shadow Lake is a large mountain lake that is ice-free quite early in the year. It can be reached via the John Muir Trail or the Shadow Lake Trail from Mammoth Lakes.

Olaine Lake is a beautiful alpine lake. It is surrounded by woods and mountains. The path from the nearest parking lot is not too challenging, so it is definitely worth the effort for the great scenery.

Starkweather Lake was named after a miner from the area in the 1920s. This lake is known for its rainbow trout and stunning views. The road that allows for access to this lake closes to motor vehicles in the winter.

Minaret Lake is a stunning, high alpine lake. The path to get to it is challenging, so there is a good chance you will have the lake all to yourself.

The Minaret Falls are located directly on the Pacific Crest Trail and offer an impressive sight, especially in spring. They are certainly 60 feet wide. The log bridge is partly destroyed, so you may have to expect wet feet.

High up on the Pacific Crest Trail you will enjoy a nice view of the Devils Postpile. There is also a side trail leading to it.
