The Mohawk River Trail is a multi-use paved path that goes through forest, bordering the river, offering a scenic and relaxing ride in the middle of the city. The trail starts at Fort Stanwix and ends at the Oneida County Cemetery. This path is part of a large network of cycling trails in the region, including the Erie Canalway Trail.

This grassy area has picnic tables and can be a good place to stop for a break along the canal way.

Erie Canalway goes mostly through gravel, with small sections using local roads. This is a great option for a nice bike touring ride, with easy access to touristic points and the facilities of the small communities along the way.

Utica Marsh is a protected wetland area along the Mohawk River. The cattail wetlands, meadows and open water pools provide a perfect habitat for a large variety of plants and animals. Take your time to appreciate the diverse environment along the Erie Canalway.

The Black River Canal Trail is a scenic route that follows the historic Black River Canal. On this section of BREIA, you can see the remains of some of the 109 locks that were part of the original canal system, used for transporting goods in the 19th century. The trail is mostly grass and gravel, offering a picturesque journey through forests, taking you to Pixley Falls.

Oriskany Flats Wildlife Management Area is a 806 acre conservation area in the Mohawk River floodplain, serving as a place for wildlife management and habitat preservation. Here you can enjoy different species of flowers and trees along the trail. Here was the battlefield for the historic Battle of Oriskany, one of the bloodiest of the Revolution War.

Fort Stanwix is an interesting construction from the 18th century, built under the British General John Stanwix’s command. The fort was strategically placed to guard the Oneida Carry during the French and Indian War. The Fort was reconstructed, with the intention of keeping its original appearance. The place is open for visits with a center housing 485,000 artifacts and various exhibits. Visiting here is like taking a time machine back 300 years.
