The national monument De Helper is a polder mill on the eastern shore of the Paterswoldsemeer lake in the municipality of Haren, province of Groningen, in the hamlet of Nijveensterkolk. Here you can enjoy a lovely walk along the Paterswoldse Meer.

Vennebroek is a 17 hectare estate north of Paterswolde, bordering the Friesche Veen wine estate. The estate consists of meadows and beech and oak avenues. Vennebroek House: In the years 1689 to 1747 the manor law was transferred to the house. In 1689 the manor law was transferred from the Mepschehuis or Huis te Eelde to Vennebroek in Paterswolde. In 1747 the law was transferred again to the house in Anloo, which was then called Vennebroek.
