Viking Mountain is an easily accessible summit on the border of Pisgah and Cherokee National Forests. The summit technically sits in Tennessee, though the state of North Carolina is only a hundred feet away. It's elevation of 4,500 feet is close to that of its neighbors Camp Creek Bald and Little Bald Mountain.

On the Appalachian Trail (and just off of Big Butt Road) is the summit of Big Butt, which is also known as Coldspring Mountain. The mountain rises to an elevation of 5,920 feet and has a bald lookout area. This is an excellent photo spot, and there is an alternate trail to take if you want to avoid the cliffs that are part of the Big Butt lookout area.

The Blackstack Cliffs are on a small spur trail off the side of the Appalachian Trail. The cliffs overlook the hills and mountains of east Tennessee and Cherokee National Forest.

The ridge of Big Firescald Knob offers excellent viewing of the surrounding mountains and cliffs. Camp Creek Bald sticks out as a high point further down the ridge. This section of the Appalachian Trail sits on the border of two states (North Carolina and Tennessee) and two national forests (Pisgah and Cherokee).

At the midway point of the hike, enjoy 360 views of the surrounding Cherokee and Pisgah National Forests. The sheltered fire tower is directly off the side of the trail and is accessible year-round. Be courteous of other visitors, as there is a forest road providing alternate access to the viewing area.
