Lockett Meadow is an incredible scenic area and has great views of the surrounding mountains. The trail to get up the Locket Meadow is rough in places, but it's worth the effort for the amazing setting.

Check trail conditions before you go—this area can be muddy or snow-covered well into spring. The climb up is steep and challenging, but the views of the Inner Basin are worth it. Be ready for narrow switchbacks, loose rock, and hikers on the trail. A solid set of tires and good brakes make all the difference on the descent.

From this elevated spot along Rimview Trail, you can catch some views of Lake Powell in the distance.

Bismarck Lake is a good water source close to the Arizona Trail. The view from here towards Humphreys Peak is spectacular! A great place to take a break or spend the night. There was even a little bit of (silty) water left in late September.

Beautiful rim trail with great views of the Colorado River and Lake Powell. A detour to Grand View in the evening is worthwhile.

Mormon Lake is the largest natural lake in Arizona, and it is a very shallow one. It is very much an intermittent lake too; in summer droughts, it recedes and can even completely dry up. However, it is a special place; being at 7,000 feet means that even in the summer, the temperatures are pleasant and the evenings are cool. Being surrounded by ponderosa pine forests makes this an excellent overlook where you can often see wildlife and birds across the lake's landscape.

Lower Lake Mary is sometimes there and sometimes not. During dry spells, the water level tends to be somewhat on the low side. Either way, it makes for a great bike section for its entire length. The views out over the lake are beautiful, and it's a great place for wildlife. You could see elk, deer, bald eagles, or blue herons. It is also a popular place for cyclists. The level road and the pretty much uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside might have something to do with it.

Horse Lake Tank is a fairly reliable water source on the Arizona Trail. The water has a good quality after filtration. A single but beautiful campground is located behind a tree at the tree line with a view of the San Francisco Peaks.
