From atop this hill, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the surrounding countryside, including Washington Lake to the south. There is a local story that in April 1897, a bright light was seen hovering over the village of Dassel. This bright light then moved west and descended onto the top of King's Hill, where it stayed for about 20 minutes. Later, when the top of the hill was examined, it appeared that a heavy vessel had sat upon it. About 300 feet from this memorial is where a white settler shot and killed Chief Little Crow, the leader of the Sioux Indians in a war against the United States, while he and his son were picking raspberries.

Great little place to celebrate reaching the western terminus of the Luce Line Regional Trail, the last 20 miles of which are single track on natural surface. There are plenty of picnic tables, shelters with electrical outlets to recharge your e Bike batteries, facilities and even a 9 hole disc golf course.

I agree. Not many barns near the trail in this section of the Luce Line.

Always good to know where to expect the surface to change. I believe this sign is on the east side of Cedar Mills. You can continue to bike gravel until you get to 620th Avenue. West of 620th Avenue the trail changes to a grass surface with a single track. Still bike-able but more work.

Cedar Mills is where the grass potion of the Luce LIne trail ends and the gravel begins. It's actually closer to the town than this maker, because I wasn't quite sure if it was actually over. The gravel is pretty well sunk into the dual track, but far firmer and faster than the grass section. Alone this section you'll find the occasional covered bench, provided by the local snowmobile club.

Maybe because it was grassy and soft and I had to pay attention to not tip over, maybe because I was out in a wind advisory, but this was the first barn I found the trail, despite all the farm fields. If nothing else, it was the closet to the trail.

While not technically the western terminus of the Luce Line State Trail, this is a great place to start and leave off, as there are picnic areas, bathrooms, and lake access. For those who like to bike/fish, the city website says the lake has walleye, perch, sunfish, black bullhead, and northern pike. It's worth noting that most of this section of the trail is grass; it's clearly mowed compared to off-trail, but could get very soft in wet weather.
