This is a popular picnic area and campground. The log shelter was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps and is a very impressive site.

Situated atop Iron Mountain at an elevation of 3800 feet, bikers will find a campground and a historically significant picnic area. The log picnic shelter, which has a grand stone fireplace, shows the history of the craftsmanship of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Hikers can check out Comers Rock Overlook and the former fire tower and explore the Unaka Nature Trail. Additionally, Hale Lake, offering opportunities for fishing, hiking, and canoeing, is conveniently located less than 2 miles away.
