Only 15 minutes outside Atlanta, Panola Mountain State Park offers something for everyone. Kids can run wild on the playground while adults take in a quiet picnic. There’s space for archery, birdwatching, even geocaching. Paved trails welcome cyclists and dog walkers; forest paths invite hikers and runners. The granite outcrop, smaller and more untouched than Stone Mountain, reveals rare plant life best seen on a guided tour.

Nice viewing platform that gives you great views of several granite outcrops that are typical in this region of Georgia. There are several other similar viewpoints along this trail.

This Trappist monastery currently supports about 20 monks, who run a retreat house for those seeking individuals or groups seeking religious and spiritual insight.

This small nature reserve has a few trails that visitors can loop for a quick hike. The longest loop is easily doable in well under an hour, even if you take your time. It can get muddy though, so wear appropriate footwear if you are visiting within a few days of rain.

Less than 100 yards from the parking lot, along Cascades Trail, you can see cascades along Bridge Pole Creek. The creek is pretty wide here, so the cascades can be quite beautiful after rain.

A small nature center that focuses on local flora and fauna. The park hosts ranger-led hikes and events from this building.

A platform at the end of a wooden boardwalk provides views of Panola Mountain. Only guided hikes are allowed on Panola Mountain itself.

A covered bridge that crosses Alexander Lake. Alexander Lake provides opportunities for fishing, swimming, and other recreation.
