This forest service road is a popular approach route to Marlette Lake, but it's expected to be closed through 2026 for repairs to the Marlette Lake dam. Until this trail reopens, the Capital to Tahoe Trail is a good riding alternative in the area. You can get updates on the trail closure at Nevada State Parks: https://parks.nv.gov/news/trail-closures-at-spooner-lake-state-park-backcountry-for-marlette-dam-repairs

While the northern part of Prison Hill Recreation Area is for hikers and bikers only, the southern part can be used by motorized vehicles as well. Once you're inside the area, you will have multiple options on where to go and no matter how you decide, you will have a great time with amazing views of the Carson Range, Carson City and much more.

Even though 'Kings Canyon Waterfall' is located very close to Carson City, this area feels way more remote. The trail is relatively easy and once you arrive at your destination, you will be rewarded with a beautiful 25 foot waterfall.

Secret Cove can be reached after a short hike and is a beautiful swimming area with great views over Lake Tahoe. Please be aware that Secret Cove Beach is a Nude Beach (optional).

No longer an insider tip, but still a beautiful and sandy beach awaits you at 'Chimney Beach'. It's named after a chimney of an old cabin and even though the cabin doesn't exist anymore, the chimney still remains at the beach.

The Nevada State Capitol, completed in one year’s time from 1870-71, is the second-oldest west of the Mississippi River. The structure is defined by its silver-colored dome and Alaskan marble features. A bronze statue of Sarah Winnemucca—a 19th-century Paiute educator and author from Nevada’s Great Basin who advocated for the rights of American Indians—is prominently displayed in the lobby, along with portraits of Nevada governors and other legendary Nevadans. It is worth reserving a spot on a Nevada Capitol Building Tour, or discover these historic grounds at your own leisure on self-guided tours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Guided tours require at least two weeks notice via Visit Carson City at (775) 687-4810 ext. 237, and are subject to docent availability. The museum in Battle Born Hall is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Closed Sundays. Admission to Battle Born Hall, as well as self-guided and docent-led tours of the Nevada State Capitol are free. https://travelnevada.com/museums/nevada-state-capitol
