Barron Lake is surrounded by trails and a thick green apron of trees. There are some grassy shores if you want to enjoy a picnic!

Crawford State Park is best known for its fishing, as Crawford Reservoir is a stocked lake. There are also some hiking trails on the property that hug up against the edge of the water and pass by the camping and day use areas offered by the park. The trails here are some of the easier "hikes" you will find in Colorado; they feel more like easy walks along the water.

Needle Rock is a 7,797-foot tall rock formation in the Needle Rock Study Area just outside of Crawford, Colorado. The trail leading up the feature dead ends near the cliff walls, giving you an up close and personal feel of the outcrop. There is no safe climbing route that you can utilize, and the trail leading up to here to already steep enough.

At 11,396 feet, Mount Lamborn isn't the tallest peak in Gunnison National Forest, but it is one of the best peaks in the foothills to climb. The entire hike up is a pretty steep, sustained grade, but it doesn't take any special maneuvering or alpine experience to nab the summit. From the top, you can see into both the San Juans and the heart of the Elk ranges. Perhaps the toughest part of the hike is getting your car up the rough 4wd road to the upper trailhead; the lower trailhead is down off of L30 Drive and results in a hike of a little over 14 total miles. Be aware that this trail is a local favorite but not the most maintained trail in the National Forest. Be ready for some overgrowth on the trail and creek crossings.

This remote lake may be attractive enough just being so off the beaten path. However, the lake itself is gorgeous in its own right, surrounded by tall trees and boulders that help give it dimension. A perfect place for backpacking, fishing, and peaceful camping.

Crater Lake Trail follows the west shoreline of Overland Reservoir before veering off into Elk Park and paralleling Cow Creek. It is a beautiful and quiet hike amongst trees and meadows that may also grant you the possibility of spotting some wildlife.

The trail along the crest is about 3 miles long in total and it takes you to elevations above 11,000 feet, providing glimpses of Wolverine Lake, the Book Cliff Mountains, the Elk Range, the San Juan Range, and even the La Sal Mountains in Utah. The ridge offers a thrilling hike, with some narrow sections that demand attention, but nothing that will prevent you from enjoying your hike!

This lake can be reached via its homonym trail from Crag Crest, which makes for quite a scenic hike as you go up and down the crest. However, may people, especially those going fishing, will reach the lake by car by taking Forest Service Road 257. For that reason, the western part of the lake is usually a bit quieter.
