This overlook offers gorgeous views over Clay Island and Lake Apopka. But just as important for runners, it offers some nice switchbacks to prolong your suffering — excuse me, training time — as you toil back up the hill or, heaven forbid, do a few laps.

Lake Louisa State Park features nine lakes and 11 distinct natural ecosystems, offering lots to explore. The park sits along a transition zone between the Green Swamp and the Lake Wales Ridge. The west side of the park is part of the Green Swamp, a vast wetland that feeds four of Florida’s major rivers. Keep in mind that without already having a park pass, visitors will have to pay $5 per vehicle to enter the property and $2 to enter the park.

Dora's Lake is a small lake just south-east of Buck Lake. The Florida Trails runs along its west side, and hikers get a nice view from the trail. The shores of the lake can be a bit swampy.

Buck Lake, just off the Florida Trail, has a campground nestled in the forest with primitive restrooms and a boat ramp. This campground is open all year round and is also just off of National Forest Road 562-1. The surrounding trees provide nice amounts of shade.

Farles Prairie Recreation Area, situated along the shores of Farles Lake, offers stunning water views and various opportunities to extend your ride and explore the area. It also serves as a pleasant break point along your ride.

This flat area offers panoramic views of Farles Prairie, with plenty of stunning water vistas as you pass through the tranquil prairie landscape.
