Great nontechnical hike to the summit of one of Bozeman's iconic southern peaks. A few stream crossings for filtration if you want to go light. Some steeper grades just up from the lake, but mostly very manageable grades, gorgeous views! Mountain goats were seen as well. Highly recommended.

The 360 degree views experienced while traversing the ~3 miles surrounding the hill called Lionhead are absolutely unreal. Anywhere your gaze falls, be it up to Lionhead or down to Hebgen Lake, you are sure to be left humbled and in awe!!

The final stretch to the summit can be a slog and may end up being more of a hike than a bike, however, the views more than make up for the effort. Also, the fire lookout at the summit is available for overnights so check recreation.gov if you plan to do some bikepacking.

History Rock Trail ends at a wide open meadow with views of the Hyalite summits. On a clear day, you can see over to the 10,000-foot Mount Blackmore. The trail back heads towards Hyalite Reservoir with views of Palisade Mountain.

Chestnut Mountain tops out at 7,627 feet. It has great views of Mount Ellis and other peaks in Custer Gallatin National Forest, and you can sometimes even see down to Mystic Lake. On the other side of the highway, you have open views of the Bridger Peaks and Crazy Mountains.

Saddle Peak (9,159 feet) is one of the sharper peaks you'll find on Bridger Ridge. This distinctive mountain has two high points (but the highest is obvious) that create a sort of "saddle" on the summit. The northern ridge up to Saddle Peak can be one of the most trying climbs along the entire ridge.

At 8,914 feet, Baldy Mountain is considered the first notable high point on Bridger Ridge when starting from the south (aka, from the Bozeman side). You have views of multiple mountain ranges from up on the ridge (including the Crazies, Absoroka-Beartooth, and Gallatin Range), and you can tackle this peak from multiple trailheads. This rocky summit is one of the most popular on the ridge.

The spur that leads to the summit of Mt. Blackmore will steal your breath in more than one way. Be ready to earn the summit that stands at just over 10,000 feet. As always, stay aware of changes in weather when climbing exposed peaks, but also keep an eye out for a stunning range of wildflowers while you climb.
