Nice path connecting 2 sections of Barnton Avenue. Rather narrow on the west side and generally shared with pedestrians, take Gamekeeper's Road instead if you're in a hurry.

Save the Roseburn Path! There is a consultation online - proposals are underway to bulldoze the path and put trams in. https://consultationhub.edinburgh.gov.uk/sfc/tram-north-south/ Edinburgh has a wonderful network of off road cycling in a beautiful environment and they are planning to take it away. Keep Edinburgh green, keep our cycle spaces safe!

And it is always windy up on the moor road and most of the times it is a brisk head wind, regardless of if you go south or north. The wind always knows you are coming and switches direction to greet you in the face. 😉😳☺️😰

A couple of Km's of climbing. Unpleasant as you switch-back left into Temple, yet perfectly do-able. Temple itself is a pretty, wee village (Large cars parked all around suggest that it's become a bolt-hole for the well-to-do), although you'll probably want to get to the top before you stop for a photo.

One of the best, big long drag up to the top, looks intimidating from the bottom but it’s not super steep.

Away from busy roads this is my go to route. A bit bumpy in places but nice open countryside views, an rspb sanctuary and occasional deer.

On Calton Hill, a location rich with monuments, you will discover the Duagald Stewart Monument, a memorial to the philosopher who was a key figure in the Scottish Enlightenment period. The monument was completed in 1831 and is unmistakably based on the Athenian architecture of ancient Greece.

Cramond Brig provides a crossing and vantage point of the beautiful River Almond. It has some history, back in 1532 being the site where James V, travelling without his entourage was attacked by 5 robbers while crossing, and was rescued by a local named Jock Howieson.
