A deep pristine lake, perfect for swimming. Its a great place to cool off, but ther aren't any camping spots near the lakeshore but there are places a the end of the trail. You can also do some fishing for trout

The meadow was a nice change of scenery on the trail. Nearby is Goat Mountain and the Susan River Canyon. There are some farms in the area as well.

Susan River begins at Caribou Lake, on the east side of Lassen Peak. It passes the Bizz Johnson Trail to Susanville and flows into the Great Basin. You get excellent views of this river for a large segment of the trail.

There are a couple places where you can meet with the Bizz Johnson Trail from the Southside Trail. One point is at the Twin Bridges where you have an interesting rock formation.

There are two tunnels on this trail, one right after the other. This Tunnel is the longest at about 800ft long. It used to be a railroad tunnel that has been converted for hiking and riding, and it's a great escape from the hot sun during the summer.

This point in the trail offers a good view of Cinder Cone's symmetrical, domed shape characteristic of the loose, pyroclastic scoria that comprises it.
