If you arrive after Sweden’s summer holidays, be sure to call ahead. We arrived at 16:30, and though the sign for the cafe said open til 17:00, we could find no one and the telephone number listed went straight to an answering machine. A permanent camper tried to help us find someone, but he didn’t speak English. None of the other campers lent us their key for the showers/kitchen. There is a toilet with a cold water sink to use without a key. The tent pitch is beautiful, flat, great view of the lake, and close to the sanitary house (provided you get a key to it).

Old train as a remnant of the mining era

Pershyttan is a small mining town about 3 kilometers south-southwest of Nora. The village has been restored and serves mainly as a museum about Bergslagen's mining and ironworking, which began in the early 14th century.

Today's Ramshyttan consists of about ten courtyards. Remains of the old smithy can be seen under the dam.

Visiting the above-ground objects, which is possible at any time during the day, is also impressive, especially when the systems are in motion, driven by hydropower. Then the principle becomes immediately clear.
