Wellston was named after Christian T. Wells, who opened a trading post here in the Kickapoo Indian Reservation in 1883. In 1933, Route 66 was straightened, so that the town lost its direct connection to the main road. They even went to the Supreme Court - to no avail. It was surprising that even in 1933 the need for through traffic was recognized.

Already in 1924, two years before Route 66, the gas station and workshop of John and Alice Seaba were opened. In 1951 it was sold to Victor and June Biggs and, after Victor's death by June, was successfully continued despite all prejudices, which earned her high respect and mention in several specialist magazines. In 1995, the now listed property was sold to Sonny and Sue Preston, who completely renovated it and opened an antique and souvenir shop for Route 66 enthusiasts and a motorcycle museum.

Founded in 1891, the town's name refers to President Harrison's Secretary of the Interior, George Chandler. A man named Bill Tilgman was instrumental in developing the town and selling the land. He later became the local police chief and eradicated almost all organized crime in Oklahoma. Tragically, he was shot in 1924 and is considered one of the last victims of the Wild West. Chandler had devoted himself entirely to growing cotton. Even children were learning how to harvest cotton, and compulsory schooling was often neglected until the entire harvest was harvested by mid-November. Every day at noon sharp and midnight sharp, shift changes were called, for many the only form of timekeeping. Today, many relics of old Route 66 can be found in the city, which billed itself as "Oklahoma's best kept secret." The former Texaco gas station, built in 1933, lies in the wedge of the Y-shaped intersection where Route 66 separates from Broadway and thus from the main street through Davenport's Old Town. Gasoline hasn't been sold here for a long time, so the Early Bird Café has moved here. The front porch is decorated with dozens of vintage Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas license plates. The oldest are from the 1920s.

Stroud The year was 1892 when James Stroud started selling smuggled whiskey to cowboys who drove through "dry" Indian country with their herds. A wild community with several saloons soon developed until the state of Oklahoma was founded in 1907 and the newly established county was also drained. Roy Rieves began building the Rock Cafe brick by brick in 1936. Stones that were removed from the old route when asphalting Route 66 were used. In 1939 the cafe was opened, which at times also served as a greyhound station. Sally Carrera's character from Disney's Cars is based on current owner Dawn Welch who, like Sally in the film, is trying to save a place from oblivion. In 2008, the cafe was badly damaged in a fire, but Dawn painstakingly rebuilt it.
