The Nisqually River crossing on the Wonderland Trail is a memorable and dynamic section, located near the southern side of Mount Rainier, typically between Maple Creek Camp and Paradise River Camp. The river itself is one of Rainier’s largest and most powerful, fed directly by the Nisqually Glacier high on the mountain’s southern face. The riverbed is wide and braided, with silt-heavy water often roaring through multiple channels. The crossing is usually made via a sturdy log or footbridge, though the exact setup can change from year to year depending on flooding, glacial melt, or storm damage—always check current conditions before your hike. The approach to the river offers expansive views up the wide, rocky riverbed toward the glacier, with Rainier looming behind, framed by shifting clouds or alpenglow in the right light.

Faraway Rock is an accessible overlook on the Mazama Ridge Trail in Mount Rainier National Park. From the top of Faraway Rock, you get panoramic views of Lake Louise and the Tatoosh Ridge, which includes Tatoosh, Stevens, Plummer, Unicorn, Foss, and Pinnacle Peaks. From here you can keep going on the Mazama Ridge Trail to a tarn and the intersection of the High Lakes Trail, or you can loop back to the trailhead and parking area at Reflection Lakes via the Lower Lakes Trail.

On a clear day the spectacular view from the saddle makes this hike well worth the effort. To the north is a dramatic close up view of Mount Rainier and Paradise. To the south, one sees Mount Adams and Mount St. Helens in the foreground and Oregon's Mount Hood on the horizon. This is an excellent trail on which to see pikas and marmots. The trail is flagged with a dangerous section at the end due to a short rock scramble to the summit. No special equipment is needed, just sure footing and taking your time. There are loose rocks, so you can turn around just before this part. You will be best prepared to have a gps route downloaded to keep you on the trail.

Narada Falls is a 168-foot waterfall fed from the Paradise River. There are two distinct tiers which make it very unique. Take a brief stroll below the road for the best viewing spot, but be mindful of the occasionally slippery path.

A picturesque trail that meanders through a series of enchanting alpine lakes. Starting from the Reflection Lakes parking area, follow the Wonderland Trail along the lakeshore, then transition to the Lower Lakes Trail at the first junction. As you continue, stay right onto the High Lakes Trail, where you'll be treated to a serene journey, passing by charming lakes and gentle stream crossings.
