Definitely a highlight, but unfortunately, the castle was covered in scaffolding when I visited. The castle dates back to the Middle Ages but was later almost completely rebuilt.

Built between the 15th and early 16th centuries, the Church of Santa Maria Magdalena is a simple Gothic hall church with a rectangular floor plan and three naves separated by columns, without a dome. The robust bell tower served as a watchtower over the estuary. This tower is the most striking element from the outside, especially due to the solid appearance of its prism-like spire. In front of it is a lovely square with two pleasant restaurants.

This 192-meter-high peak lies at the westernmost end of the Munarrikolanda Mountains. This mountain range is an important megalithic site stretching between the Saierri and Munarrikolanda mountains and contains a total of seven monuments (burial mounds and dolmens).

A beautiful beach with high waves depending on the weather, also great for surfers (there's also a surf school)! There's a small swimming area with lifeguards on duty.

What an amazing view. It has also become super famous for being part of the filming of Game of Thrones.

Very nice stop! From the parking lot you have to get on your own feet and then hike to the hermitage but it's worth it!

Due to the number of tourists who wish to visit San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, it is no longer freely accessible to the beginning of the stairs leading up to the hermitage. Now it is necessary to reserve access (free), go through a turnstile and make a steep descent until you reach the base of the hermitage stairs.
