This climb is incredible: it doesn't have any difficult gradients, but it's long, incredibly long, endless. You reach a point where you almost hate it: you've been pedaling for well over an hour and the summit is still out of sight, you're running out of energy and the wind keeps whipping you in the face, you want to throw your bike away and say, "Enough! I'll stop here!"... but it's only a moment, because you're the one who chose to tackle it and you knew exactly what you were getting into; you set off again with more determination than before and attack those last few kilometers of road with all your remaining strength. And then you enter the tunnel, there you begin to realize you've made it, you exit, follow the road that bends slightly to the left, and, as if in a dream, the lake appears. You reach the top and think about how many people have traveled this road over the centuries: Salassi, Romans, monks, migrants, Napoleonic soldiers... you realize you're in a place steeped in history and stunning nature, and there you can't help but love this hill.

From the Italian side, you mostly have to carry the bike or use rails. Short sections are rideable. The descent into Val Ferret is mostly good, somewhere between S1 and S2. In some places, I had to carry/push the bike because it was too heavy. It took me about 25-30 minutes from the pass to Plan de la Chaux.

I recommend choosing the classic crossing via Col de Ferret. In contrast to the Fenetre de Ferret, the climb is partly rideable and the view of the Mont Blanc massif is much more spectacular.

https://youtu.be/Li5AlhVsZvI?feature=shared Push up about 300m from St. Bernhard, then you'll have an incredible panorama of the entire Mont Blanc massif. The trail meanders down through the glacier lakes. One of the most beautiful places in the world.

The austere buildings of the Hospice of Great St. Bernard are situated in a rocky pass through which an icy wind almost always blows, on the edge of a lake that is frozen for an average of 265 days a year and where winter lasts almost eight months. For nine centuries, the Canons Regular of the Order of St. Augustine, who settled here at the instigation of St. Bernard of Menthon, have maintained a tradition of helpfulness and hospitality. Travellers who wish to relax for a while in this peaceful place are welcome all year round.

A fairly wide and open mountain pass, covered with scree and boulders, giving this pass an almost lunar atmosphere. This pass is nestled between La Tsavre and the western ridge of Becca Colinta, overlooking Val Ferret. The trails, as well as the summit, are excellent examples of alpine terrain, combined with technical and rocky trails, winding through incredible and fascinating terrain, with a fantastic ambiance.

A wild mountain pass, balanced between the Swiss and French borders. To access the pass, you'll encounter technical alpine trails, channeling your inner mountain goat spirit to reach the summit cleanly. Once you are there you will have an excellent view, in a surreal and unique place. Reaching this terrain on your own is a fantastic achievement and a rewarding challenge, especially as you'll have a brilliant technical descent to look forward to.

A historic and iconic monastery perched on the border between Switzerland and Italy, it has existed as a hospice for over 1,000 years. Saint Bernard dogs, a symbol of Switzerland, were bred here for many years to rescue mountaineers in distress. The monastery is also located on the shores of the tranquil Great St. Bernard Lake, where many trails begin.

Still one of the emblematic and popular passes of the region. This particular pass is often covered in snow in early summer, so use caution and make sure you are diligent in your planning. However, this pass provides an excellent and challenging climb, forming part of a very natural loop when included with two other passes in the area. As you pass over the pass, you'll experience brilliant panoramic views and a secluded mountain ambiance.

12월 11, 2023, Fenêtre de Ferret
A wild mountain pass, perched above Val Ferret. The pass itself has a remote, mountainous feel, and is quite remote, although it is still frequently visited due to the relative ease of access from the neighboring Great Saint Bernard Pass. The top of the pass can often be covered in snow, even in early summer, so be sure to take this into account if you plan to climb it! Despite what might be a demanding climb for some, you will be rewarded with excellent panoramic views of the Valais mountains, as well as the Mont Blanc range.

A historic and iconic monastery and hospice, perched on the Swiss/Italian border, existing as a hospice for over 1000 years. The hospice is also renowned for creating the fantastic St. Bernard dogs, which were used for many years to rescue mountaineers in need of help and thus became an iconic symbol of Switzerland. Additionally, the monastery sits on the shores of the peaceful Grand St. Bernard Lake, a lake of brilliant blue waters with an iconic mountain backdrop. This area is a great place to visit in its own right, or to start one of the many hiking trails that start from here.

Pass to cross to go down to the window lakes from Italy, the border between Switzerland and Italy. Very windy, but there are small stone fortifications to hide
