From the town of Mauvoisin you can have an excellent view of the gigantic dam, which dominates the town itself. The dam is one of the largest in the world and is used to generate hydroelectric power for the surrounding region.

The second highest arch dam in the world is perched at the top of a superb climb from Le Châble, which is easily reached from Champex-Lac via Orsières and Sembrancher. 18km of ascent on a slope that is sometimes gentle, sometimes more demanding with magnificent views. This is the final of the famous Martigny-Mauvoisin hill climb which has been going on for more than 50 years. At the top located at an altitude of 1850 meters, regain strength in the restaurant and admire the imposing dam 247 meters high.
