A nearby nunnery has been used as such again since 1994. It consists of an extensive complex, with a small museum located in one of the buildings.

This campsite is run by Bram, the Dutch owner, and his Romanian wife. The campsite is basic but beautifully situated in nature, and the host is very friendly and helpful.

This monastery is incredible. Between the typical wooden buildings of Maramureș, the care taken, the flowers, a visit to the Bârsana Monastery is an unforgettable moment.

The spectacular monastery complex of Bârsana in northern Romania was built in the 1990s using the famous traditional wooden construction method and is now one of the most beautiful oak buildings in the country. The Mănăstirea Bârsana, the impressive monastery complex in the town of Bârsana in northern Transylvania, is one of the most beautiful and remarkable wooden buildings in Romania. It was not until 1989 that the decision was made to revive the tradition of old monastic life in Romania and from 1993 onwards the new monastery complex of Bârsana was built - in traditional style, made entirely of oak and river stones and by regional craftsmen. The result is a modern yet historical masterpiece of Romanian wooden architecture, which has been used as a Romanian Orthodox nunnery ever since.
