A cultural complex designed by the famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and inaugurated in 2011. It consists of several cone-shaped buildings and a large central square. Inside there is a concert hall, a theater, several exhibition halls, a cinema and a library. The design of the Center is very characteristic with its organic curves that Oscar Niemeyer used in many of his other projects. In addition, it has several murals and sculptures designed by Niemeyer himself.

The cathedral image of the Church of St. Thomas of Canterbury evokes the desires of modernity, urban expansion and demographic increase that the old fishing village lived at the end of the nineteenth century, crowning the bourgeois expansion of the new city. Symphonic organ: Thanks to the contribution of individuals, companies and foundations, the church has since 2010 a symphonic organ by the builder Federico Acitores, the second largest in Asturias, after the Basilica of Covadonga. Lignum Crucis: Since in 1953 he received, through the intercession of Bishop Lauzurica, a fragment of the relic of Lignum Crucis that is preserved in the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana (Cantabria), this has become the treasure and symbol of the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Solitude and of the Holy True Cross, who venerates the Virgin since ancient times in her invocation of Our Lady of Solitude.
