perfect after a ride from Machynlleth "Canolfan Prysor Centre" with all the usual cafe favourites, good food and friendly staff.

Good loop. I rode up out of Llanuwchllyn. But this ride would work very well starting in Bala. The section up around Arenig is great. A few gates to open/close, one farm to go through....but this is a good alternative to the sadly hobbled Bala Loop (Vyrnwy).

Just sublime when sunny, and even if not, the kind of narrow lane where you can ride along nice and relaxed.

As always great scenery with fresh air some decent climbs well worth it.

Typical rural stone built bridge in a gorgeous country setting. Cycling along these back lanes and seeing these structures is like being in an open air museum.

The road from Bala Lake to Lake Vyrnwy is simply one of the most challenging, scenic and highest rides through the Welsh mountains. If you’re fit enough you will find it one of the greatest rides in the British Isles.

This picnic spot provides lovely views across Llyn Trawsfynydd and the surrounding mountains. The lake is artificial, created in the 1920s to supply the Maentwrog power station, though it later became the cooling water source for the Trawsfynydd nuclear power station. It's slightly larger than Llyn Tegid (Lake Bala), Wales' largest natural lake.

The village of Trawsfynydd, on the banks of the artificial llyn of the same name, is a great basecamp slap bang in the middle of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. The trails of the Coed y Brenin Forest Park are nearby, while the Rhinogydd provide hillwalking of the highest quality. There's bunkhouse accommodation at the Cross Foxes pub, which also serves great food. The village and lake are known for the nearby nuclear power station, which is no longer operational. Amazingly, at one time, the power it generated was enough to provide all of Wales' electricity needs.

This footbridge was built to replace some of the lost footpaths that the lake flooded. The old track here linked Trawsfynydd village with the old chapel. It's a metal lattice construction with a wooden deck. When you run around the lake it's a nice change of surface.

Trawsfynydd nuclear power station was the only inland nuclear power plant in the UK. It was able to be situated here because of the large lake that provided sufficient cooling water to the reactors. The power station switched on in 1965 and closed at the end of its safe life in 1991. The planned decommissioning was expected to take about 100 years but in 2021 the Welsh government started to explore plans to install a smaller reactor and reinstate the power station to help Wales reach zero carbon electricity production.

Lovely well signposted singletrack. It avoids riding on the busy neighbouring road but can be muddy after rainfall.

Dam that is easy to ride over, and the last paved section when riding around the lake anti-clockwise.

Good for a rest for a coffee and a toilet or some fishing or to hire a boat.
