Llyn Cefni Dam During World War II, a water scheme was devised for the town of Llangefni in central Anglesey. It involved water from a local source being pumped to two settling tanks in the Dingle part of the town. From here the water was pumped across the river to a reservoir and water tower, on the site of the present Pennant Estate. These arrangements became redundant with the building of the Cefni Reservoir, which was completed in 1951, but the settling tanks and pumping station survive in Llangefni to this day. The new scheme was designed to supply most of the water needs for the people of Anglesey for the foreseeable future

Pont Marquis Bridge Spanning the Afon Cefni, carrying the Trefdraeth to Llangaffo road, c. 3km ENE of Malltraeth. The bridge, which is Grade II listed, was built in the early C19, was named for the Earl of Uxbridge, first Marquis of Anglesey. It gives wonderful scenery over the marsh land and plenty of wildlife.

The only crossing point for the Afon Cefni between the coast and the A5, with great views over the marshes and the straightened channel of the river.

Some areas of the track are a bit tight

The place is closed. It's still possible to see the mill but the car park is closed and the sails are not turning.

A beautiful tranquil place to take a few moments to enjoy the scenery. The old stone bridge here over the Cefni and the view onwards to the marshes are so so nice.

Newborough forest features two family friendly cycling trails as well as a host of other forestry tracks that are ideal for easy trail riding. There are no trails graded above green so you should encounter no technical issues. The tracks are wide and other than navigating your way along the veritable maze of tracks you should easily finish a 15km loop without crossing over onto previous trails. RAF Valley on Anglesey is home to No 4 Flying Training School, responsible for training the UK's next generation of world-class fighter pilots. Safely watch aircraft at RAF Valley from the viewing area near the railway bridge, opposite the Station main gate.

Mynydd Bodafon is a proper minature little Switzerland in the middle of an otherwise flat Anglesey. At 178m it is the highest hill on the island and you have great views out over the rest of the island. The roads around here are also great for cycling.

The ancient ruins of Din Lligwy village give you a small insight into life thousands of years ago. The village is thought to date back to the Iron Age although archaeological works mainly unearthed Roman artifacts. There's a lovely little walk through fields and woodland to reach the village. Visiting is free.

Cycle through the trees of Newborough and you reach Traeth Llanddwyn, a long sandy beach. Located at the southern-most point of Anglesey, this is a wonderful area with coniferous woodland, coastal marshes and sandy dunes. I could imagine this would be a lovely place for a swim too (although when I was there, it was raining). At low tide, you can walk to Llanddwyn Island, a stone's throw from the beach.

A lovely little coastal village at the mouth of the river Ffraw, just before it flows into the sea. There's a handy shop here to stock up on supplies. With thriving wildlife, traditional white cottages, and a picturesque church, it's a lovely place to stop, rain or shine!
