The Trojan Horse stands proudly towering on the harbor promenade of Canakkale. To be more precise, it is the original prop from the 2004 film adaptation of Troy by Wolfgang Petersen. The location was not chosen by chance, as it is believed that the legendary Battle of Troy took place here. An archaeological roundtrip lets you dive deeper into the history of Troy.

The castle was built around 1373, during the Byzantine period, on the site of the acropolis of the ancient city, after the island of Lesvos was granted to Francesco I Gattilusio by John V Palaiologos. A few remains of the Byzantine structure are preserved in the north-west part. In addition to the extensive reconstruction by the Genoese, significant repairs and modifications were undertaken during the period of Ottoman rule (1462-1912), to which almost all the buildings preserved inside the castle belong.

The Odeon was built at the beginning of the 2nd century AD. The architect deviated from the usual construction method. Emperor Hadrian visited the city in AD 124 and ordered significant renovation and decoration work. The odeon had a skené of very limited depth, even including the ädikulä. The foundations show how limited the depth of the entire building was. The foundation also shows an irregular spacing of the roof-bearing columns mirrored around the center. The cavea was divided into 5 kerkides. The upper corridor was reached via two flights of stairs. 7 rows of seats have stood the test of time.
